Chain, known as the God of Bittercoin, is a New God. It is one of the mid stage bosses in the game. Chain is one of two possible variants of the "God of Bittercoin" bossfight, the other being the boss named "Block".
Appearance[]
Chain is represented by a large sentient treasure chest with one eye, four legs, one arm, and a mohawk. to add to the treasure theme of the boss it's mouth appears to be overflowing with coins. Since the bosses Block and Chain are a play on the cryptocurrency term "blockchain", the money theme is represented in the treasure aspect of their design, with the computer chip design on the mohawk and sides of the chest representing the technology aspect of cryptocurrency.
Battle[]
1st Phase[]
During the first phase of the fight, Chain will follow the player from side to side throwing a random combination of 4 to 5 coins and/or bombs. If the player uses the platforms in the room to routinely move back and forth across the screen, Chain will continue this pattern.
Note: The coins that Chain throws at the player during the first phase can be picked up and add to the players coin total. Despite the coins sharing the same gold color as the 10 unit coins, these coins are only worth 1, as designated by the "1" on both sides of the coins. As long as the player stays alive and chain does not enter it's second phase, these coins will continue to be thrown and will remain on screen until they are picked up
Once Chain is within a close range of the player, it will attempt a telegraphed over-head swing at the player. Chain will continue this melee attack as long as the player is within the melee range.
2nd Phase[]
During the second phase of the fight, Chain will start off the fight by changing color; this is only a cosmetic change and does nothing in the fight. It will continue it's attack pattern of throwing random assortments of coins and bombs at the player. However, the difference this time is that the coins will immediately turn into bombs and explode.
Chain will also gain a projectile attack where it will open a portal in its mouth and bring 4 to 5 waves of slow moving projectiles in towards the portal from off screen.
Chain seems to no longer attempt melee attacks during the second phase.
Notes[]
- The name "Chain" is a reference to the term "blockchain" used within cryptocurrency, with "Block" being the other part of the reference. As such, Block and Chain's design takes influence from the financial and technological aspects of crypto currency
- Since Chain will continue to throw bombs and coins at the player until the player dies or Chain enters its second phase, it is possible to exploit this fight for unlimited money. If the player is adept enough at avoiding damage from the boss or has flight, with enough time the player can farm coins from this fight. This is helpful earlier on to buy any items that might appear in the shop making it well worth the time spent. As mentioned, if the player has flight they can simply fly to the top of the room and let Chain throw unlimited coins all over the ground, provided the boss has not entered its second phase.
